California State government has really gone and done it now. No longer can we run our hot rod diesel pick-ups up and down the roads of California with out the “man” looking under our hoods to see what makes this baby go. From now on, your going to have to take your light duty diesel rig into a smog shop, pay them to snoop around under the hood and do a visual tail pipe smoke examination before you can get your tags from the DMV.

What this website is all about

This website’s purpose to help the diesel vehicle owner get through the diesel smog test process with as little hassle as possible. Since smog testing light duty diesel vehicles in California is a new thing for 2010, there is a lot of confusion out there about what has to be done to pass the diesel smog test.

What is the difference between a SMOKE TEST and a SMOG TEST?

Diesel Smoke Testing is an ARB (California Air Resources Board) requirement on all diesel powered trucks that are in a fleet (2 or more truck) used for business purposes. This program is referred to as the Periodic Smoke Inspection Program (PSIP) and is run by the ARB. The test procedure for smoke testing is called Snap-Idle Test.
